It really sounds like your needs point you in the direction of a notebook. These days, you can really find the components for an almost game-level PC in a notebook. The games you described do not require serious super-high end PCs. Just be sure to look for a high-speed processor. Your laptop will be a little heavier than others, but you will get the processing power you need.
Please use a coupon if you purchase a dell. They have weekly coupons, and right now you can save about $200 on a $999 laptop. You can get the coupon here http://www.24houredeals.com/dell-coupons-23-mer.html That will give you more buying power, and therefor more for your money.

you can do all of those things on a laptop or a PC, the only thing to question is your useage. Is your yearly trip to asia grounds for getting a portable computer, or can you live without it for the duration of the trip?
Basically, you can get a pretty decent notebook from dell if you search for a deal for $1500, or you can get one mondo amazing desktop for the same or less. The desktop will have more hard drive, more memory, be faster, etc.
I personally cannot fathom having a desktop given my schedule, though. I'm in college, I take my computer with me everywhere. I don't just plug it in and keep it in the same spot for weeks on end. If you do not have those kinds of desires, or you have access to a computer when you travel and you can get away with just bringing a back-up removable hard drive with your important files, then you should just get a desktop.

I would personally opt for the notebook. Of course I travel much more often so I need the portability. Your budget may be the limiting factor. Your desire to play games and photo editing are going to drive the need for a higher end graphics card. It is going to be difficult to get a nice high-end graphics card along with a fast processor, DVD burner, and large hard drive on a notebook. You can do it but you may have to sacrifice something. For $1500 you can get one heck of a desktop these days.

I j ust baught a Dell Enspiron E1505, with all the bells and wistles, from Costco.com, for $999 with tax it was $1050. Costco have a six month return policy no questions asked. I just love my new lap top, check out all their bundels they have all sorts of deals, you can even get a big LCD tv for gaming and a remote in one bundel that I was looking at, with another bundel a couple of months ago you could have gotten a expansion doc with a wireless keybord an mouse. hope this helps, If I were you I would get a laptop to take with me when traveling.

With $1500 in your pocket, Laptop is definitely a better option. You will get a decent laptop to that money which can perform all the functions that you are talking about.
Also, I have read in Yahoo Answers only that Dell laptops perform better than their PCs.
Hope that helps!

My last 3 computers have all been laptops and all my future ones will be laptops as well. They're a little more but well worth it, you can travel with it, sit on the couch with it, and with WiFi you can go anywhere really.

Generally, buying a desktop will give you more performance for your dollar. If you need portability though, $1500 will buy a pretty nice laptop.
