I see things happen here in St.Louis but I also think that the media plays on the fears of the public. I have lived here for years and I have also lived in new jersey, Chicago, Milwaukee, new york and Dallas to name a few and I don't feel any bigger threat in living here than I did in living in those places Every city has a rough part of town but I don't feel that ours is particular rougher than the ones I have been to.

I've been in St. Louis long enough to know that our ranking doesn't directly change our environment. It's funny to see that we're more dangerous than Compton or even New York, bu these things happen in a growing metropolis. For a long time I thought the city was dying. Although, the most dangerous city is the exact same city who host the World Series Champs, it can't be too bad.

Personally, I don't think we would be nearly as dangerous if we didn't have to put everything on the news. Or if the president didn't show his fear by shutting down the major highways when he comes to town to support his buddies (not saying that he could possibly come to town for legitimate government business).

So having that whole concealed arms thing and this new danger level, in a little while we'll be feeling like the old west again.

I don't feel that it is the most dangerous city. I've lived here for all of my 22 years and I've been to all parts of the city. I find it hard to believe that we are # 1. But, I can see us being in the top 10. I hope that doesn't discourage people from visiting. We really do have nice people that live here.

It's sad. I think we need to take a serious look at why people commit these kinds of crimes?? Also, I live in the City of St. Louis. I do walk outside and around my block at night. I have never in the 4 years I've lived in my house heard of any violent crime in or around my neighborhood. Although, my car has been broken into 3 times, my husband's twice. I think the violent crime rate in north St. Louis is so high, that it makes that statistic staggering. We need to do something, I just don't know what. Mayor Slay??

I'm cool with it. I know what St. Louis is all about. I do not need a number on a piece of paper to tell me the city I have lived in all my life is any different. I know where to go and where not to go. I've been playing around with the fact. Like this one: Changing offical greeting from "Hello, how are you" to "Give me all your money". Good for a laugh.

I feel angry, because when the violence start happening in the late 80'S and early 90's, Our mayor Clarance Harmon denied that we had a gang problem, when all the sign were there. I feel that if would have nip the problem when it got started , we wouldn't be ranked the most dangerous city in the U. S.

It's an unfair stat. They just went with the city of st. louis and not the st. louis metropolitian area. The city is dangerous. The county is safe.

a little stunned, but not too much
actually, it makes me feel like i can live anywhere, do anything, b/c i've lived & worked in downtown stl, north stl and south stl, while in college and survived.

maybe it will open people's eyes and the proper officials will do something about all of the problems, especially poverty, which cause this.

It is weird...lived here my whole life and thought that we were just a big small town. You would think that larger cities would have a higher rate of crime.
