At the age of 15 I worked in Central London and experienced Pea Souper Fogs where you could not see your hand in front of you, and could taste the fumes in the air, that is what I called pollution. I walked round London today in light traffic and could not taste any fumes in the air. I want to know why people are saying it is worse today?

Probably because of the amount of traffic. It kicks up a huge amount of toxic fumes (not to mention the noise) and the amount of dust in the city is colossal. It still amounts me that people can walk around and their make-up is so pristine! I walk around London and within minutes I have creases filled with filth.
I don't miss the smoke though. Coal smoke really affects my breathing these days!

It's a different type of fumes.
Years ago the fog wasn't fog, it was smog, carbon filled fog in the air which got on your chest.
Nowadays the pollutants are all concentrated hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide etc, that are even more harmful than smog, and in greater amounts in the air by volume, but a lot of them are colourless and odourless, so we don't know we're breathing them in.

Somehow it seems easier to blame the general public. Industry produces far more pollutants the the private sector ever does.
I aggree that something needs to be done but the target should be at least played on an even playing field

People are NOT saying its worse today. The Government is, for reasons of its own, sewing misinformation.
