A lot of people tell me that they look alike, and i have seen that they do. I was just wondering if they are related in any way. If not, are Persians considered Arab??? If not please tell me what they are.

Wow some of you people are retarded!!! Persians are not Arab!!! Read the History and you will find out that the Aryan ethnic group which originated in Russia, migrated to what is now Iran and so Iranians are totally different than Arabs. God, what do they teach you in school???????

They share similarities, perhaps because both countries were invaded many times almost by the same races! However, it seems geography effect cannot be neglected as well. There are some DNA studies suggesting both the effect of geography and similarities between Iranians and Italians as such Rosser et al. (Am. J. Hum. Genet. 67:1526–1543, 2000), which is not a surprise! As higher the latitude as more fair becomes skin. This can even be seen in both Italy and Iran as Northern people are fairer. Just look at the map. You may blame the Sun. However, considering the cultural aspects NOT affected by religion, you may even be more surprise with the similarities.
Last but not least, both Iranian and Italians are not races but nationalities. Iran during its 5000-7000 written history has been called to a region roughly from northern India/China up to Greece. Its name has been slightly changed from Irana to Iran during that period. Italy on the other hand, is founded in 1861 as a country with this name, although the civilization there is almost as old! So, it important to distinguish race and nationality! yet in points in history the ruler of what is called Iran and Italy now have shared boarders!

well dear why do u ask a question in that innocent way if u know the answer?? i dont know if some here are retarted or just answering things they have no idea about but u sure are a smartass. persians might be indoeuropeans but a) the craddle of indoeuropeans is still on debate and b)most propable as indoeuropean craddle are considered the regions of the caspian and the black sea and thats NOT russia, dear.
secondly no, if u ask me, and i have known plenty of both, persians do not look like italians in general and when some do its like southern italians only.
ps. why dont u explain to me the origin of eskimos Mr. "what do they teach u in school?"???

First of all, who cares? Anthropologists will tell you race is something created by man, not a true biological construct. Secondly, I don't get why so many Persians WANT people to think they look Italian or French, but they get so offended when someone mistakes them for an Arab, Indian or Latino (and just as many of them look like that as look Italian). Is Persian culture sort of racist? Or are they ashamed of being Persian? I'm sure there is a lot to be proud of, so why try to be something else?

To be honest with you, I m Iranian and I hate Iranians who try to look like Europeans. I live in Canada and I ve seen so many Iranians that put on lots of make up to look European. It seems like we re ashamed of our nationality and try to conceal it from others. To answer your question, Iranians are Iranians and they are not similar to any other nationality.

Iranians are of the Arabic world-remember that Arabic is a religious connotation not a nationality. Iran use to be Persia-they still speak Persian-I have a friend from there and she speaks Persian......she is Iranian (Persian) but of Arabic religion. A person is the nationality of birth nation not of a religion-so many get that confused.
