I just got the new Stephen King, Lisey's Story from my library. It is hard to recommend cuz I don't know how old you are...Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Tryst by Elizabeth Thayer if you like a tearjerker, love Fern Michaels the Weekend Warriors series, of course the Harry Potter books, anything by Jonathan Kellerman if you like gory murder mysteries...Kay Hooper's paranormal series is good.
Oh wait...I just remembered one of the best books I ever read...When the Wind Blows by James Patterson! It is fantastic and the sequel is The Lake House...not as good but okay...I really don't read other stuff by him but that book is about kids with wings and their story...it is really good...

My Sister's Keeper is good. Also The Lovely Bones. Drowning Ruth isn't bad. I guess it depends on what kind of books you like to read. Those aren't romance books or anything so if that is what you're looking for those probably aren't good selections. They are all very good books though.

It really depends on your interests...
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a great science fiction book. (And yes, it can be the science fiction for those that don't like science fiction. It often serves as a nice introduction to the genre.)
Julia Quinn is a great writer if you like historical romance novels.
Edward Rutherfurd is great if you like historical fiction.
And Gregory Maguire can be fun as well if you like retellings of various stories, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, etc.
