Jerry Lewis was excellent in this role with Stella Stevens.
Eddie Murphy later played "the nutty professor' in yet another hollywood-remake-ripping-off-someone-else's-idea-instead-of-coming-up-with-their-own. I hate remakes. They are done by thieves and never match up to the original.
