I know exactly who they are. All I've ever heard is Vernon Reid backing some different bands occasionally.

I don't think so. My favorite album was Time's Up. Never did manage to see them in concert:(

Nope, don't think so, think they went off and did invidual solo projects, but I maybe confusing them with Phish, sorry.
