reinstall the drivers. You may have downloaded something which is creating interference.

Check they USB cable and the External drive case.

connect it up , then click on bottom toolbar: 'safetly remove hardware' delete it.. unplug it and re-plug it in, it will find it again.. also , try system restore.....
