These were the lyrics to an old Beatles song. "Life is what happens in between making other plans."(sic)(I think it was by John Lennon).
The point is that no matter how much you plan, many times life does not go according to plan. Ironically, in the business sense, this means you have to make backup plans, contingency plans to assure your success no matter the economic climate. So make plans, but be sure to have more than one vision of the future because you never know what life will bring.

I am going to take a stab at your question. I am not an educated person, grade nine education, but I did have a life. It's been 57 years to date.

I like, a lot of the answers, you received so far, and looked at things differently because of them. I especially liked the first response.

Questions like yours, have no real correct or wrong answer. I believe it to be a morality type question, one best answered by the asker.
The querie, therefore is and has been placed before us all , to ponder, to stimulate a response, so that others may or may not, determine the value, of what our life experiences are, at a given point in our journey through life. Or for that matter, the effectiveness of their own tutledge upon us. Our response to this question, invariably alters, like memories do, over time

This can be determined, by your professors, by the quality, research and forethought you put forward with your reply, today.
Right or wrong is not the criteria you will graded upon. Think of it, as someone asking you, of your opinion, then think of it , like you are answering a question, to which only you, know the answer. You will always be right, now just be intelligent, and honest, with your response so that others may learn of you.

Life is best lived with direction and purpose, these things come to some young and others old, and may change on your deathbed. Thus, we have the saying " to soon old and so late smart" and "youth is wasted upon the young"

Life, it's purpose or even my direction came late for me, and my youth does seem wasted, to carry on is life!

I realized at age four, that death befalls us all, we are born, we die! My question then, was quite profound, or so I think now, I asked of me "what is the purpose of life, if we die in the end?"

The answer, did not come to me, for me, until some 39 years had whisked by. Between birth and death is "the fuzzy middle" we call life, enjoy, do your best and foremost do no harm, and just maybe you will have another kick at the can....who really knows?

you know, I have said " I was so intent on making a living, I did not have a life" it sounds like the fella goin' out to drain the swamp...

The way I read it is that no matter how much you plan, you can't really plan for EVERY eventuality. Kind of like you can plan to get somewhere at a certain time, plan the best route, plan for traffic jams, car breaking down, etc. so you think you're covered but then something completely unexpected happens and you're still late! I think it relates to your topic because as a manager you have to plan everything as much as you can but you still have to keep in mind that anything could happen.

The future is uncertain. Even very bright people cannot plan very well. If you want a real hoot, look up some of the futuristic predictions for the year 2000 from 1950-1960. Lfe is unpredictable - too many balls in the air to count!

I think it is like this Life is what you make of it and you can live each day to the fulliness. But if you try and plan each and everything you do then that is not a life you are missing the important things in life.
Just look around and see what wonders are in the world and maybe you can see what life is all about.

This sounds philosophic. I believe it to mean planning is what makes life better and more organized. Better success comes from planning. A business must have a plan to be successful as well as capital.

i think it means that you make plans/and or choices, and what happens in life is a result of that.

hence forth if you dont make any plans life will never begin for you.

A manager would have to plan certian tasks for and employee to accomplish, without the managers planning and guidance nothing would get accomplished.

In my opinion it is saying that while you're busy planning everything, life is passing you by - ie, you don't really get to experience it properly because you are always planning what you are going to do rather than enjoying what you are already doing.

Errrrr, does that make ANY sense?!?!?

There's a saying that goes:

Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.

I think this can sum it up for you.
