Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp?

Hello LadyScott:
I think Gene Wilder was the better Wonka as he first created the part for the movie. Any other actor that portrays another part done by the original actor always takes bits and pieces while trying to make it his own.
I do think Johnny Depp based Willy Wonka on 10 parts Gene Wilder and 90 parts of Michel Jackson.

I love Johnny Depp as an actor and humanitarian, and sex symbol beyond all other celebs. That said, I still think of Gene Wilder first when I hear someone mention Willy Wonka or Charlie and the chocolate factory.They both did a really great job, but the first one was a classic, and it's hard to do remakes of classics. I guess I have a Wonka mental block. LOL
