I noticed that people in my work place smile and enjoy others no matter what they are saying, eventhough they are making fun of them, but when socializing with others that have a lower rank regarding the chain of command they treat people without respect or very careless about what the person says.

Because they forget that the people that you step over on the way up the ladder of success are the same people that will overtake you in a few years time.
Some people are rude, obnoxious and disrespectful - but we have to call them management!

Because they are being ignorant!
Just because you achieve "social status" in a place, through senority or other means, doesnt mean that you should look down upon the others.
Actually, I believe that in some places, its encouraged to "disocialize" with the "hirlings", as everyone below them are called, because they become thier own "club" and they dont want the lower echelon to participate in what they have.
A more successful boss will not fraternize with the help... But, he will be most pleasant with them so that they will be willing to do more for him!
A mean boss will not get your attention, and you will not do as much for him. You will avoid him at all costs in fact...
So, when you attain this "rank" always remember the little guys, its them that do the Work, so that you can enjoy your status in life!
