We are already one of the highest taxed countries in Europe, and now new labour are proposing higher taxes or its the "end of the world".
Just seems like a scaremongering tactic to me to screw the uk taxpayer out of even more money to pay for new labours mismanagment of this country.

Well possibly but then it isn't just Labour (new or otherwis) Tory party also talk about the need for green taxes and the Lib Dems have done for some time.

What is needed is a reallocation of tax burdens - no problem with green tax if the government actually pursued those in tax avoidance schemes primarily ultra super rich companies such as News International who - with all their companies like 20th Century Fox, Sunday Times, News of the Sh*t etc pay zero tax in this country. Get those to pay a reasonable amount and reduce taxes on individuals and then apply green tax

As for airlines - well need to see better thinking but they put Prescott in charge of joinging the dots so it all went **** up...but the problem with air travel is they don't tax the fuel. Tax airline fuel and increase rail and reduce fares... trouble is the truth is unpalatable and all governments have been complict in deferring and deferring - at some poitn attitudes and methods and the way people behave will need to change

Yes it is a way to screw to ordinary tax payer who is paying a lot in car tax which is suppose to cover pollutions and wear and tear on roads.
We are beginning to realise that climate change is happening and that we all have to be more aware of what we are using but the transport system in urban and rural areas is not sufficient to cover the shifts and needs of a lot of workers and employers, in my area the last bus home from the town leaves at 6 pm the shops also close at 6 pm.
The railway system should be invested in again to get all the lorries off the roads and there should be a tax on all the foreign freight on our roads that don't pay for the repairs etc. I know some people will say we don't pay in other countries but we do pay tolls on some motorways where as we only have the M6 and a few bridges or tunnels that we charge for and there are a lot more lorries from abroad than we send overseas.
Mr.Livingstone wants to increase the areas for the congestion charge and all around London the a road works where nothing seems to be happening just hundreds of cones and hold ups to justify the need for increases.

Yep - it could actually be counter productive! Why go green when all the government is doing is collecting even more tax because it has already bankrupted Britain.

The only way green tax can work is if all - that's right - All the tax goes to green issues. Tax the polluter, reward the the non polluter. It will never happen under a Labour government!!!!!

as always its poor old joe public who pays for everything
DONT tax us
tax the main polluters ... the manufacturers
give us the choice to decide if we really need the stuff
dont tax cars which many people need to earn a living
bring back local jobs so people dont have to travel 40 to 100 miles a day just to go to work
give incentives to companies to allow people to work from home more
invest in local jobs for local people
to many people nowadays spend 2 hrs a day just travelling to work
too much stuff is thrown away with many usable parts still inside
years ago when prices for electronic goods were higher there was a whole repair industry out there as people had things repaired or rented them this would create more jobs and many skilled workers who have now had to get jobs in warehouses etc could return to their trade
the british man will take so much we dont mind doing our bit
recycling cutting down on waste but it comes to a time when after listening to all these polliticle parties who have ALL lost touch with the british man in the street and what its like to live in britain today that you have to say enough is enough lay off or else
ALL politicle parties need to rethink what they are doing
they are all so far up their own backsides they have lost the plot
and are all too connected with big business to see the way ahead clearly

I heard a labor politician and others talking about it on the radio and a few things stuck in my mind. He said taxes couldn't be revenue neutral - I wondered why not?? Just what do they propose to waste vast windfall taxes on?

I heard a representative of small businesses talking about their inability to compete with foreign businesses if cost burdens were placed on them.

There was talk of cashing in on the development of low carbon technology which sounds to me as likely to fall as flat as Harold Wilson's economic miracle based a the 'white hot heat of modern technology', certainly if central government try to micro manage it. UK these days only has isolated pockets of good technology.

I personally believe that global warming is a problem that must be addressed, and sooner rather than later, but sometimes 'more haste, less speed' and crashing the economy now would not be a good start.

Yes.
Gordon Brown has to find yet another way to finance the ruinous Labour policies.
He has to be both the luckiest and worst chancellor ever. His legacy will be cursed for decades to come.

GREEN TAX????
Tax us out of our wits.
Now a tax if you live in a nice area with a good school.
They are playing us for complete fools and we are sadly taking it.
Is it worth our while working hard for a good life anymore, or just working to survive the bloody labour party???
