Fleas, ticks and bugs is a huge category for one answer. First of all, encourage birds with feeders, bushes, plants, etc that attract birds. Birds eat 2 to 5 times their weight a day in bugs. Do not leave piles of plant refuse around. If you clip or prune or pull up plants, bag immediately or burn. Bugs love old vegetation. You can also use boric acid around the base of your house. Place the crystals or powder at the base of the house. There are also sticky traps that can be purchased. These little flags stick out of the ground and the insects get stuck on the tape. Discard when full. Pick up every container or play thing every day. Do not have buckets, toys, or other containers where bugs can move in. Keep all your bushes nicely pruned and have plenty of space between your plants. Do not leave standing water anywhere. Mosquitoes can produce larvae overnight in as little as an inch of water. So dump water out of your garbage cans or any other object that can hold even a little water. Best bet though is the birds. They love bugs. There are many books available on how to attract birds. The internet is full of information. Good luck.

Diazinon has been banned in the United States but an insecticide is the only practical way to do this. I would use Sevin granules or liquid. It is safe enough that there are directions on the Sevin dust how to use it on your pets to kill fleas and ticks. Just keep the kids off until the liquid dries or until the granules have been watered by you or nature and then dried. Should kill these pests and not have any harmful effects on your children.

Birds and predatory insects such as wasps do the trick naturally. Look up Worms Way on the net...

If it is real bad use a low residual insecticide that is specific to your problem I.E. spiders.

Treat your yard with Diazanon using a push-type fertilizer spreader. It can be shaken onto the ground from any can if you don't have a spreader. Safe for children, deadly for bugs.
