it's a quieter time of year and would appreciate any ideas?

I'd suggest getting yourself a freephone. They're easy and cheap to set up. You could use this in conjunction with a leaflet-drop in your area offering a discount.
The freephone will give the impression you're bigger than you are, and the discount will appeal to most people.

distribute some leaflets locally in your area, maybe offer a discount if they book with you b4 a certain date/ or a 10% discount if they recommend you to a friend etc.. this time of year my salon offers a Christmas package.. ie hair and nails vouchers as gifts etc.. mates are the best word of mouth, do a couple of your friends and family, if your good at what you do then that's where best advertising comes in.. good luck xx
