no you don't have to be nice. you can be anything you want to be. Just remember there are some very young people on here.

Obviously there is more to the story than you've outlined here...In general though, I suppose it can't hurt to be "nice" or at least refrain from being rude, deliberately cruel etc. Everyone is entitled to be themselves of course & to express their opinions but it's wise to have some tact so you don't offend people. For instance, if you disagree with someone's opinion, you could say "I disagree" instead of saying "You're wrong! You're stupid!" You don't have to be nice in the sense of being phony or saying things you don't mean, just use common sense & do what's socially appropriate. Show people respect. We may not always agree but we're in this world together & should endeavour to get along!
& incidentally I don't think you have to be mean to be interesting...

"Nice" meaning respectful of the other person. Life is still interesting with niceness and less people get offended.

Yes, nice can be BORING!!! However, you don't have to be one or other of complete opposites, i.e. nice or horrible. Why not try being kind but interesting., or Helpful but funny?
