Have you noticed that the people who insist that we shouldn't be allowed to own guns just happen to be the types of people who you wouldn't trust with one in the first place? All of the law-abiding American gun owners I know personally are responsible, mature, and stable. However, I have had "discussions" with anti-gun folks who, during our discussions, exploded into hysterics, calling me "child killer", etc., and telling me that my guns are responsible for shootings in inner-city schools, etc. (as if guns have the ability go get up and go around shooting all by themselves).

Case in point: Note the guy below who insists that the National Guard and the Reserves are the "militia" identified in the Constitution. The 2nd Amendment was ratified in 1879. The National Guard was created in 1933. Let's all laugh together!

OMG you are soo right on with this question.

The thing you don't know is the Government is the biggest part of the problem with Gun Control. The Liberals have orchestrated a long term policy of systematically convincing us that Guns are bad. and they have set into motion literally hundreds of laws to slowly make it illegal to have guns.

Did you know that the Clinton administration made a law that made it illegal to possess a firearm or ammunition if you were subject to a restraining order. It is now a felony to be in possession of a firearm or ammunition if you are subject to a restraining order. You don't have to be convicted of any crime. Just a simple restraining order that goes on every DIVORCE in this country. Even if you have never committed any crime in your life. Your 2nd amendment rights are now taken away with out due process. AND IT IS LEGAL!!!
Check it out for yourself.

The Government is slowly trying to disarm us. AND THEY ARE DOING IT WITH OUR APPROVAL!!!.

That is what "they" do...they get people all in an uproar so that they can't use their brains anymore and are functioning solely on emotions. As far as gun control goes...most people don't realize that you don't need a permit to guy a rifle or a shotgun, those get used in school shootings as well. Gun control only works for people that buy guns legitimately. If you bought a gun at a gun show who would ever know? Nobody. Gun control doesn't really work......we bust convicted felons all of the time with guns...they didn't buy them in a store, they bought them off the street, no control there.

Guns are weapons. Weapons are tools that carry a lot of responsibility. I have met pro gun people and anti-gun people that all had valid arguments. I shoot guns at a range from time to time as a hobby, but I do not own one.

I feel guns do require great care if you have children. I was taught as a child how to shoot and the rules of safety while shooting. It never crossed my mind as a child to take an adults gun and shoot people at school.

Take Care

Guns cause crime like pencils cause words, a golf club causes a hole in one, and a basball bat causes homeruns. The liberal limp wrist leg wetting gun control advocates have no concept whatsoever of self sufficiency, self confidence, and self determination. They have this nebulous un-armed world utopia scheme implanted indelibly on their simple minds (as our leftist establishment intended). The most crime free city in the world, excluding military and insurgent action, is Bagdhad, where every body and their dog carries a handgun, or AK-47, or grenade, or have an RPG in their closet. The liberal U.S. media has catagorically censored those facts and figures, originally reported by Pentagon sources to the Washington Post in late 2005...

Any one who tries to ban any of are constitutional rights (the Bill of Rights) is not worth my vote, which is why I'm Libertarian. That includes speech, religion, guns, assembly, etc.
The problem is that people are not looking at freespeech as freespeech to a certain degree and come up with their own conclusions of what are forefathers meant instead of looking at what it is. Same with guns and everthing else in the constitution.

HI STACY, YOU ARE RIGHT, THE MOVEMENT THAT IS BEING
USED AGAINST AND TO TAKE GUNS AWAY FROM THE
AMERICAN PEOPLE IS A SINISTER PLOT TO EVENTUALLY
TAKE AWAY "ALL" FIRE ARMS FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!!! IF AND WHEN THAT OCCURS, THE AMERICAN
PEOPLE WILL SITTING DUCKS IN THIER OWN HOMES!!!
WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR A COMPLETE TAKE OVER OF
THE LAND!!! THIS IS WHY THE FOREFATHERS WROTE
THAT AS AMERICANS, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS
NOT TO "SHOOT" PEOPLE IN SCHOOLS, BUT TO PROTECT
OURSELVES FROM "INSIDE INVASION" IF THAT WERE TO
OCCUR. AND AS YOU AND I CAN SEE, THAT'S WHAT'S
GOING DOWN!!! BUT REMEMBER IT'S THE "PEOPLE"THAT
ARE ELECTING THESE LEADERS INTO OFFICE!!! I DON'T
VOTE BECAUSE VOTING HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING THAT
I CAN SEE AS BENEFITTING OUR SOCIETY AS A WHOLE!!!
AND NO, I'M NOT ANTI-AMERICAN, I WAS BORN IN THIS LAND
AND I'VE BEEN HONORABLY DISCHARGED FROM THE U.S.
MILITARY.... BUT LIKE THE DYLAN SONG SAYS"THINGS ARE
CHANGING" AND "FAST" I MIGHT ADD!!!

People on both sides of this issue have the ability to calmly talk thru their differences, if all the pro gun control people you talk to go into hysterics, maybe it is the way that one of you are presenting their side. Or maybe it is you who has a problem getting your logical opinion across which turns them to hysterics.

I gave a detailed answer about gun control advocates a couple of days ago and was awarded best answer. Check it out if you like. MOST gun control advocates are radicals by nature, and they seem to have very little knowledge of the philosophy that influenced the US Constitution.

"Guns don't kill people. People kill people."

Have you heard that one?

Here's another one. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people," but people with guns kill people better.

I am a gun control advocate who has often discussed the issue and never felt especially emotional about it. Sorry about your experience. I always try to stay calm and remind myself that in order for our freedoms to really mean something we need to sedulously defend the right of the Nazi, the racist and the Islamic radical to speak his or her mind.

Once several years ago, while I was teaching, I discussed firearms with another teacher who held the opposite position - that guns were very consistent with goodness and decency and justice. He said that guns were successfully used many times in recent history throughout the world in defense against others with firearms. Incredulous, I said, "You mean to cite the use of firearms in an attack on people as a defense of firearms." His eyes bugged out in the realization of the irony and absurdity of his argument.

Here's something to think about: If statistics (that you yourself believed were accurate) revealed that 43 times as many people are shot by friends and relatives and otherwise by accident for every one time the guns are used in a successful defense of a person or his/her home, would this make any difference to you in your advocacy of guns? Gun supporters, not unlike death penalty supporters, have such opinions driven by emotion, not by reason or information. There is no amount of research evidence you could pile up in front of Saddam Hussein that would convince him that guns or the death penalty were morally or politically unacceptable. Hussein watched tortures and killings (courtesy of his dear ol' dad) when he was only ten years old. His psychology was permanently twisted then. No subsequent "learning" can ever affect his belief in torture and killing; these are now in the core of his bones.
