Could the joints become loose as a result of this?

Probably not, but it sounds as if you may have air in the water lines. That is usually what causes the bang. If you own the house have it checked by a plumber, if you rent, report it to your landlord. They may not do anything because it doesn't cause any problems. If you don't mind the bang, don't worry about it.

You need to add a water hammer. Just cut the offending line or both put a tee in there and a short piece of pipe, like 1 foot with a cap on the end. I usually make it a bigger size than the one I am branching off of.

Sounds like air in the system. Maybe you should "bleed your radiaters." Take the valve off, and turn your heat on. In the meantime flush the valve to make sure it is clear. I don't think this alone could loosen the seams on your pipes.
