Because some people would rather meddle when they cannot look to their own lives and resolve their own problems and so focus upon other people's instead.
Yes, a friend's role is to show impartial and unconditional support but when they pour their entire energies into other people's issues, this can be insulting for the person receiving too much interfearance as it aims to take power from those they are trying to help, but are in fact rendering the person helpless rather than empowering them to make decisions of their own.
You empower someone by helping them find a solution to the problem if indeed, the advice is wanted. If it isn't wanted and the person meddling is persistent in trying to resolve your problems, then there is going to be resentment and anger towards that person because they what they are doing, is trying to take powers from the person they are wanting to help but not are not doing anything more than making the problem worse.
Not everyone is doing this consciously, they do it out of a compulsive drive that is like an addiction they can't stop and these types will usually be unaware of the fact that what they are doing is very destructive. Ones who know what they are doing however, and do it deliberatley, will do it because they want to be a cause rather than part of the sulution and will happily meddle.

i have meddled before and i think i did the right thing. one friends cousin was having an affair with my other friends husband and my friend had the phone bill to prove that he had been calling my other friend's cousin and so I told her who he was calling and she has thanked me several times since then. Meddling is not always bad!!!

Actually a true friends job is to make sure their friends dont muck up their life too much. If my friend were doing drugs and it were hurting her I would meddle, if she were in an abusive relationship I would meddle. Friends are there to make your life wonderful, not stand by and watch you destroy it. True friends are family, and family is always there.

I think it's hard for a lot of people/friends to draw the line between 'helping' and 'meddling'. I'm very odd when it comes to things like that. I'm more comfortable sharing the dirty, troublesome details of my life with complete strangers (Yahoo Answers), than I am with my friends of family. It's hard to tell a friend to 'butt out' without hurting their feelings, but it's even harder to have to hear them go on and on about it...
If you find that your friends do not know where/when to draw that line, draw it for them... It might hurt a few feelings initially, but with time, they kinda learn to figure it out.

true. friends don't have the right to meddle, but being friends, they have the right to NOT show support if what the friend is doing is no longer for her/his own good.

Well I can't get much from your question, I have no clue the situation or what your firend did, but step back, make sure you arn't overreacting, soemtimes friends do things for the betterment of the person, even if it angers the person at the time. This may not be the case. If it isn't then you don't need friends who don't look out for you.

It means this isn't a friend and people like that are generally quite evil. You want to get away from people like that as fast and as far as you can. Trust me. That is really the way it is and it doesn't matter who is doing it. Again. Someone like that - is evil.
