This is the paragraph:

Americans owe a great debt to Longfellow because he was among the first of American writers to use native themes. Columbus called the Native Americans "Indians" because he thought he had landed in the Indies. He wrote about the American scene and landscape, the American Indian ('Song of Hiawatha'), and American history and tradition ('The Courtship of Miles Standish', 'Paul Revere's Ride', 'Evangeline').

Is it:

C
Read the paragraph 3 times-each time omitting each sentence and see which one can be taken out and not take from the overall meaning of the paragraph.
Do you see how the sentence "...he wrote about....." just naturally flows with the first sentence???? And how the sentence regarding Columbus has nothing to do with Longfellow?

A. The first sentence is about Longfellow. The rest of the paragraph is about Columbus

C. The paragraph is about Longfellow, not Columbus!

I would go for C.

If you could omit any sentance, then ditch that one.
The first (a) is about longfellow, the second is about longfellows works (b) but the third is simply about why indians are called indians.

A) because it does not agree with the rest of the paragraph which was clearly talking about columbus and his escapades removing either B or C would give the paragraph no meaning clearly showing there is a missing link.I hope you get my point. Thanks
