British American Tabacco have mission statements, five year plans, strategy papers, environmental impact statements etc, etc, all of which explain in really dull detail what they want us to believe their objectives are. Most of it is meaningless PR BS (anyone know what "substainable stakeholder relationships" means?) It is designed to make the media and general public forget that they sell products which kill people.

The reality is a lot more simple. British American Tabacco is a PLC company registered in the UK. Under UK company law the Board are required to run the company to "maximise returns to shareholders". That means the only objective that counts is to sell as many cigarettes as they can at the highest possible profit margin.
