This product has a long handle and doesn't look like it's capable of cleaning the sides of an inground pool. I just need something reliable and under $500.

Yes they do climb walls, but they can be picky. Not all pool shapes and wall slopes work well with suction based cleaners.
They'll easily come up to the surface in most vinyl Ig's, but pools that have a safety ledge, they tend to get lost there and don't do the last 3 1/2 feet of vertical.
As for their getting stuck. Again, a lot has to do with pool shape and where you place the weights on the hose. That's usually the number one culprit of people that complain their Kreepy isn't going where it should.
If ladder hangs happen (hey..has to climb up that wall to hang, right), they can be avoided with either ladder deflectors (cheap) or you can buy the Kreepy back up system. It's like an outboard motor for the Kreepy and every few minutes, will shut down suction to the kreepy and pull it to another part of the pool. This also makes sure that it cleans pretty well everywhere.

The Kreepy Krawly works well. We now have a Barracuda and it works just as well, providing all the other parts of the pool equipment is working correctly.

Yes it does but it will get stuck and just sit there until someone actually comes and pulls it up and out and puts it back into the water.

It gets stuck on ladders and steps and junk. But they do clean the sides all the way up to the top.

When they get old, (from chlorine and sun light exposure) they rot and break. The little pieces that hold in the hoses that actually keep it submerged, snap off, and it becomes hard to use it properly. I have mine rigged with rubber bands right now because im not buying a new one right before x-mas!

Id say it is worth the money though while they last, they are okay if you can get passed the constant ticking noise?

No. I have a creepy crawly & found it to be a pain to keep working properly. I have never seen it climb the walls, but that could be a problem with the radius of the junction between the walls & the floor
