I vote on what I feel is the better choice for my values and beliefs. I can't limit myself to only voting Rep or Dem b/c they do not always represent me or what I believe. If I choose a side I feel like I am being very close minded and going against everything it means to be "free". That is just my opinion I know that most people feel that you have to be one or the other, but as we all know things in life aren't always that clear cut. Sometimes you have look outside of what your used to for a solution.
In general when voting in politics, you are choosing the lesser of two evils..... sad, but true.

I vote for my party. I used to vote for the person, but I started thinking that leads to conflicting viewpoints on key issues with the Senate and with Congress. How much can that solve???? I don't mind differences of opinions, but if I vote Dem for one candidate, and then Rep for another one, then that's 2 TOTALLY different areas. I feel that leads to total confusion and not accomplishing anything. That doesn't mean that there are candidates of my party that I don't like but I have to vote for my party. If there are say, two Rep or two Dem running for the same seat-then I vote for the one I like best.

Many people involved in local politics often feel as if they "have" to vote for their respective party. Though, some pretend/act like they vote for party, but some "secretly" votes for the candidate they think is right.

For me, it's the same thing. I am a Republican because those are the ones who have the most of my personal values, so I vote mostly for them. Occasionally, there is a Democrat with my values, like Joe Lieberman for instance, but they are few and far between.
