I consider myself liberal, however sometimes i do agree with a more conservative point of view and i just have to wonder... if liberals are so open-minded, why are they so close-minded to conservative views?

Not all are. Your question negates itself when you say you are liberal and are open-minded to conservative views. Radicals in both parties tend to ignore the other's rhetoric and only hear what they want.

Independent and happy!

Your question is just a tad over-generalizing. The only current "conservative views" that warrant a closed mind are a corporate-controlled media, water-boarding, loss of civil liberties, the Iraq war is a success and Foley is a Democrat (reported on Fox news after the page scandal broke). Most Americans are in the "middle" of the political spectrum, which means they embody generally, a centrist's view. If you want to see a broad tent, it would be above the Democratic Party, not the Republican despite what spinning you may have heard. Not to say that Democrats are all that and change, but at least there are those who appreciate the complexities of life and try to address them thoughtfully, rather than resort to convenient sound bites that appeal to a populace that is badly educated, has short-term memory and suffers from political ADD. Right now, it seems the only thing that matters for the Republicans is that they win at all costs, including the loss of honesty and integrity. Unfortunate collateral damage has been done to people who I used to have respect for of whom McCain and Powell are two.

Liberal and conservative are not judgments on open-mindedness. For instance I have atheist friends that believe in homeopathic medicine. Go figure.

I consider myself to be a liberal but I'm also a realist. If an idea is good and it works I don't care who came up with it or what party they represent. The problem is, we don't have discussions about what works any more, just about what is politically expedient. I think that's why everyone appears so close-minded - neither side wants to cross the line and admit that the other side has a good idea.

Most liberals are NOT open-minded. Not only will most liberals not even consider conservative views, they really know nothing at all (or next to nothing) about how government works -- they simply repeat what they've been told by the liberal media. Case in point: How many times in the last 16 years have we heard from the liberals that the fighting in Iraq is over oil? They claim to be free-thinkers but they're actually conformists of the highest degree.

Now, in all fairness, most conservatives are very similar in that they really don't understand government and often repeat what the conservative media says, but I have more of a problem with liberals because they hold themselves out as being more enlightened, more open-minded, more tolerant, more accepting...you know, "I'm OK, you're OK," but whenever they're faced with someone who disagrees with their political point of view they lash out and criticize with a maturity level that makes Pee Wee Herman look like Ward Cleever. It's one thing to be ignorant of political science (which happens in both camps) but it's quite another to be a total hypocrite.

Liberals generally have a pessimistic out look on life. There for they listen to like minded people, like the blame America first crowd and move on . They have a hard time believing others are happy.

They only tolerate what they agree with. They believe in free speech, only if they agree with it. I have received a violation notice simply for saying they do not agree with free speech. There is nothing in the Community Guidelines about that. They are far more closed minded than the conservatives. Liberals are against anything that does not suit their agenda.

Probably one person they knew in the past was judgmental to them and they didn't process it well.

Instead of changing what they could, accepting what they couldn't, and moving on, they became victimized.

They want to punish anyone who looks like their life is easier.

Why do you assume they are? I'm open minded to any well thought out viewpoints.
