It really irritates me that so many people enjoy making fun of others. Why do we do it?

It's an innate and undeniable part of human nature.

Some people enjoy the misery of others cause they too are miserable inside and don't know how to deal. So they look for the flaws everyone else so that their own are not being shown. It's a defense mechanism that ends up becoming a 2nd natured habit. Some need psycological help to stop verbally abusing others. It's a disease actually.

When a person makes fun of someone else ... it's because they, themselves, have low self-esteem. By putting others down ... they get the feeling that they're "above" the ones they put down. I simply don't pay any mind to people like that ... they're not worth it. If I think they are worth it ... such as a friend or relative, I'll tell them ... straight up ... "Please, go and seek counseling ... you have low self-esteem". They can either heed my advice, or stay away from me. I'm not game for their negativity.

BTW: Have you ever heard the song "Don't Laugh At Me" by Mark Wills? .... great song!!

You don't sound like the type of person who is able to laugh at herself. Sometimes you just can't take life so seriously. But there are mean spirited individuals out there who cross the line and that's just how life is. You gotta take the good with the bad... it be nice if we could live in a perfect society kind of like the song "Imagine". Well unfortunately it will never happen.

I think society is preconditioned from youth to judge and manipulate. Personally, I am spending the rest of my adult life trying to remove my preconceived notions and get down to the heart of what is important. We are all human and have the same tendencies as the next person. It is our CHOICE every day to rise above our "fundamental darkness" and choose a better path. We need to cultivate humanistic qualities. We need to spread peace in our immediate world, not hate and judgment. IT IS POSSIBLE!

Because they have low self esteem, and the ONLY way they can find to make themselves feel better is to make fun of others

I think that when people make fun of others is to feel superior.I've met a lot of people that do this just because they want to be superior. Also a lot of people do it just for fun. They just don't care about others feelings. -_-

they feel so low about themselves the only way they can get a few seconds of feeling better is to slam another and attempt to bring them down to the same level they are on.

in turn they think this will make them go up a notch in feeling better but like a cocaine high, its only temporary and gets worse each time needing more and more and more.

its why most haters get worse over time and age.
