I am not predjudice at all.... But have always wondered, why is ok to have bet(black entertainment television), black awards, etc. And not white entertainment tv, or such. Can you imagine what would happen if someone tried that?

I understand that there is an imbalance.... Im not even suggesting there be any "white tv" and such. I just wonder why black pride is ok, but if someone said they were proud to be white it would be considered racist?

Blame the media and political correctness. If you try to start White TV people will claim you are trying to revive the third Reich. If you try to have a white pride day, you are trying to encourage racism. However, if you start a Black TV program it is simply showing your pride of being black. If you stage a black pride day, you are expressing your pride for you "historic roots". There is no sound rational for this imbalance. If you are black have pride in this fact. If you are brown, also be proud. If you are white, be proud as well. Just remember, no race is better than another. Also, no race has more liberties than another. Why don't you start a white pride day?

This is a common theme - why is it acceptable for a minority (of race, gender, etc) to display pride in themselves and share activities that cater solely to their group, but it is considered NOT acceptable for the majority to do so?

The answer is that, in a perfect world, we wouldn't need to. In a perfect world, all groups would be equally represented in all areas of life, and even subconcious discrimination wouldn't exist. But it's not a perfect world, and power and attention is unfairly distributed. It could be argued that whites DO have "white entertainment TV," because most channels feature shows starring predominately white actors in shows that cater to a white audience. And so on. It's completely acceptable and understandble and done without intent to subjugate other races, because whites are still a majority in this country, so statistically it is more likely that the culture will cater to them. It's so prevalent that we hardly even notice it.

Therefore it's understandable that any minority group would want a chance to have their distinct voice clearly heard and recognized. The majority group already dominates so much (unconsciously, perhaps, but still) that they don't need anything more.

isn't everything on tv, white television? why can't we have our own things as well. we have black colleges because blacks used to couldn't go to school in white schools. we have black clubs and organizations because its a place for us to come together as a whole. There are some organizations and clubs that are just meant for white people of a certain culture. There is no '"white culture." There is Italian, Irish, etc, but not a WHITE CULTURE. Think about the questions that you ask before you ask them.

In England there is a 'Black Police Officer's Association' but not a white one. In my Local Authority there are departments that deal with ethnic minorities but none for indigenous English. I'm not being particularly judgmental, just stating fact.

It's obvious that you don't watch much TV. The next time you turn on your TV, count how many "Black" programs you see as opposed to "White" programs,. When you do the math, you will find that there is a major imbalance. As far as BET, it is currently owned by a "White Corp".... As far as BET having awards, 'have you ever watched the MTV Awards? I hope my answer helped......NMT

It would probably be banned.Like some black rappers it is ok for them to make songs about raping white women & killing white cops but if a white person did it it would probably be called racism.I am not a prejudice person either.

I frequently wonder this. It's people who think equality means special treatment and it confuses me. I'm not going to treat someone BETTER because of their skin colour/religion/country of origen. That disterbs me as much as treating them worse.
