What's the best time to take my 5 year old trick or treating?

I take mine out around dusk, when the sun is about down but not totally so here that is around 5:30/6:00. Most of the older kids come out around 7pm and they tend to be very pushy and run the little ones down to get to the doors instead of waiting. So earlier is better.

Your city probably has set times for trick-or-treating. Check your newspaper. It is usually between 6 and 8. Of course with a 5 year old you'll probably be out for only a half-an-hour.

Some places here start at 5 to 8pm. Best place is at church for a 5 year old. They have all kinds of neat things for your child to learn and do. Plus the adults get to help out with the children, and they also get candy.

The earlier, the better. I would start between 6:00 and 6:30, before most of the older kids go out and it gets crazy.

since trick or tricking ends at 8 pm. i'd say early. when he/she is not tried. also don't let them eat the candy on the way so that you can inspect it at home (just a suggestion). also this will make the child hyper on sugar and no sleep for you.

Take her earlier in the evening rather then later so she has time to "unwind" afterwards.
It's a pretty exciting day from a child's point of view.

I would take him at about 6:00 p.m. that's when mostly everyone is out.

Just before dinner time
And don't let your kid eat any candy before he or she finishes her/his meal
