The truth is always a novel idea, especially if you have a genuine reason. If you have been on the job for a while, and doing a good job, a decent boss will understand. If you have the Pointy Haired Boss (Dilbert comics), you may have to resort to: I have a Dr. appt., I have...(a headache, a toothache, nausea, etc), I think I'm coming down with something (and don't want to expose coworkers), use a little thought and ingenuity. Just don't do it very often. And people who only get 'sick' on Monday and Friday are totally transparent. Lotsa Luck!

If you haven't used it recently tell them you have a dentist appointment, at 13:30 or soon after.
Otherwise say you have to go home as someone is delivering a package and no one will be home. The package could be anything including a present for christmas for someone!

If you wish you wish to keep your job be honest. If it is a slow day and there is no work that needs to be done then ask for the hours off. Don't expect to be paid. If the office/store is very busy and by you leaving there are going to be problems then don't expect to keep your job or get any raises in the future. Lying will catch up to you.

Simply tell them you need to leave early. If they need a reason, tell them you need to take care of some personal issues and will return the following day on time.

Be honest tell them you have an appt. You do right? Just not with a Dr. etc, more than likely friends to enjoy the night with right?

It's always best to tell the truth...ask for a personal day. Everyone needs a break now and then.
