Trans fat (aka shortening, aka partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, aka hydrogenated vegetable oil) is incredibly bad for you. In fact, Europe has a ban on this, they don't want manufacturers to send them products that contain trans fat. It's only been invented to benefit big business and it is detrimental to our (human) health. Haven't you noticed that certain health conditions (clogged arteries, diabetes, obesity, etc.) have increased significantly since the introduction of trans fat and processed foods into the United States food supply?

I think the government is going too far. Where does it stop? First it's the smoking, now it's trans fats, and where does it end? Are they going to bring back Prohibition? Do you realize how many things they can outlaw for our 'health'? Think about it. Next is coffee and soda because of the caffeine. Hell, some schools have already banned soda. Is candy next because of the sugar? What happens if they decide all fried products are bad?

Sure, a lot of people thought banning cigarettes was a good thing, but it was just the first step. It will only get worse if we allow the government to dictate for us what we can and can not do. I think it's extremely scary.

Yes, Even though trans fats appear in naturally in dairy products, why is there a need for artifical trans fats which are unecessary and are not beneficial to our health......

If municipal dollars are being spent on obesity, then they should go for it. But by the same token, they should reduce pollution because surely they are putting out money to treat asthma.

I think the govt. should quit telling us what we should eat.
But I would welcome healthier fast food, Trans fats aren't on my list of them.
