my wife had one and they removed her ovary with it. now she wishes she hadn't had the ovary removed just the cyst.

try to keep your ovaries if you can. loosing one isn't too bad as you still ovulate and have egular periods. but tell them to try not to take them.

I was plagued by Cysts on my ovaries since the age of 11. They thought at first I was just having bad period pains then I got severe appendicitis and was admitted for surgery. During the operation my mum was told that I had a mass of Cysts (24 to be exact)on my right ovary and a few on my left which they removed with my parents consent in the same operation. We thought that would be the end of that problem but 34 years later I still get them now and again. Sometimes they don't bother me I just get a cramping pain but when they flair up I have to go into hospital to have them removed. Cyst are little sacks of fluid that can inflate and deflate at any time. 3 of the times I was put into hospital to have them removed I was sent home after finding out that they had deflated.
Some people can have 1 cyst in their life and never get another then there are people like me who are prone to them. When I was 11 my mum was also told that because of my age and the amount of cysts that they'd taken off my ovaries I might not be able to have children, I proved them wrong on this diagnosis as I now have 2 beautiful kids. The technology and the equipment now a days has changed so much that they can now remove cysts with a laparoscopy which requires only 2 very small incisions. You can also get out after 24hours if you feel ok. I don't know if it was due to the cysts or the operations or just sheer bad luck but I always had very long painful periods as well. I hope this information helps.
