I have been told both ways...it seems to be slower after turning it back on in the mornings... I never turn off the DSL

It is better to turn it off. It ensures the whole system is reset each day which should make it run better overall. Also, if you leave it on all the time, you are going to have a much larger energy bill (in addition to wasting limited world resources unnecessarily). I'm not sure where this myth that you should leave it on came from but I work in tech support and 80% of my calls come down to 'reboot your system' because they never shut down.

OK not to be smart but do we leave our car own when we are done driving? Do we leave the hot water running when not in use? Do we leave the lights on all day every day when we don't use it? If you answer yes to that then leave your computer on. I have like 10 computers in my house right now and I don't leave them on. If I know I am going to come back to it in a little while then I put it on standby. Your computer has a power supply and like a light bulb it has a estimated number of hours it can probably last for. MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) is a description for power supplies. Assuming your power supply falls within the average of 80,000 hours at 25-50 degrees Celsius then that means it can stay powered on for about 2 years straight. My mom has had her computer since I was in high school and I never had to replace her power supply. Power supplies are like the number one part that I had to replace when I was working at Dell and now that I own my own computer business they still are. Like you I have heard and been told both ways but you just kind of have to research things for yourself. It is probably more convenient to leave it on. I say if you know how to replace your own power supply and know where to get an affordable one then leave it own. So unless you have a warranty where someone will come and replace it for you then leave it on. If not turn off your system. Hope that helped.

It doesn't really matter.
If you want to save energy and you don't have a job or program running, you can turn it off.
The computer doesn't really have a mood, so it shouldn't be slow in the morning versus being fast in the evening..
As for your dsl, that you can leave running forever.. doesn't matter.. it's probably better to leave it on, so that your computer can connect to it right away, rather than have it wait for the dsl modem to connect to your ISP, then connect to the modem.

cheers

I use a Mac. Before I leave I put it in sleep mode. If I know I'm not going to use it the next day I turn it off. With OSX, if you leave your computer on, the computer will automatically run this program that cleans your computer called MacJanitor or something like that. If you are one to turn it off, you can manually run MacJanitor anytime you want.

You should turn it off after 4 days.
Turn it off in the 4 days only when the computer starts showing error messages.Your computer might be running still but it's not good for your op. system.

If your gonna leave it on, adjust your power settings so that the hard disks will stop while its not being used. Leaving it on just wears out the hard drive, fans, etc then you run the risk of it not cooling properly and since the hard drive is moving parts the more its writing while your not using it, the more its wearing out.
