The truth is, no matter how she does it, he will get hurt. If he does care so strongly, they is never a good way to say,"I do not want to date you." Same for saying that she needs her space. But basicly saying, "Listen (person), I like you. Your a nice guy, and a good friend. But I need some space, and I do not want to hurt you. I just want to be friends, and thats all." Thats the best way to do it, but they will in the end still get hurt. Better hurt nicely now, than bad later.

Do you think she's putting out the wrong vibe out? Has she made it clear that she only appreciates him as a friend and not as anything else? Sometimes the best way to get rid of clinginess is to not be receptive to it. For instance, if he repeatedly calls, don't pick up every single time and when he does, just politely ask him to stop doing that. And saying NO to him when he wants to follow does not hurt him. He needs to realize that she needs some space and it should be said in that way. Just be fair and make sure that she isn't leading him on in any way. Make that point clear first. If these attempts don't work, then she needs to just be firm about what she wants from him and make sure she does what she can to not enable him from continuing to cling to her.

Not a problem, now days. They have those little sheets you just put in the dryer and they eleminate the "cling". We didn't have those things in the old days and times were really tough!

Don't hurt the other party, hurt yourself instead, and end up hurting the other party even more, coz its like giving false hope. Short pain better then long festering pain, heed my advise and do what is good.

Only way to do this is to sit them down and be straight with them, they'll never get the point any other way. Best to direct and get it over with.

I think that she is going to have to address the issue with him. You can try to tell him but I think it would be better coming from him.

Let him get hurt, he needs to grow a thicker skin. It's part of growing up.
