My girlfriend and I are going for New Years. Do you suggest doing 2 nights in Napa or 1 night in Napa and another night in Sonoma? What are the differences in Napa and Sonoma? Is 2 days too much or enough time to enjoy the area?

I would do some wine tasting and maybe take a trip to the coast which is only a few hours away from Napa. There is a train that you can take called the skunk tain I think. It costs about 25 bucks a person and includes dinner. You guys may need a few extra days to really enjoy the sites. They have cute little shops for shopping and the town is very small and quiet. They have a day spa ther for massages and hot tub. Hope you guys have a blast. Good luck.

My preference is the Napa Valley. My wife and I go 4-5 times a year for getaways. We usually stay in Yountville which is centrally located to the wineries and restaurants in the valley. Napa Valley is more built-up than the Sonoma side and is more crowded, but we know the area better and are comfortable there. If you only have two days, stay on one side or the other. A nice, romantic place to stay in Yountville is Maison Fleurie but it is probably not cheap over New Years. Although it does include wine and cheese in the afternoon and a great breakfast. Go to V. Sattui Winery (Hwy.29 at south end of St. Helena and 10 minutes from Yountville) for a picnic lunch. Beautiful winery with free wine tasting and a great deli and picnic grounds. Always our first stop in the wine country. For dinner, try Rutherford Grill in Rutherford. (also on Hwy.29) Best ribs anywhere. Also try their cornbread. Excellent bar.
