Of course they can, and I'm NOT guessing AUSKAN.
Ferrets for instance can catch the flu and cold virus. That's why one should not sneeze or cough on them or let them sneeze on us. When ever you have a cold or the flu you should limit physical contact with your pet and keep it away from your face. Wash hands thoroughly before handling your pet if you have to.
There are some viruses that are species specific as well though, but you didn't specify which pet you were referring to.

The viruses we've do not seem to wish to stay in cats or dogs. they stay in pigs and ducks although. Why? ask the virus. in case you are able to "seize" one. that became undesirable sorry. Cats would were the ultimate animal domesticated and the viruses received't have had time to regulate to sharing cats and human beings. obviously that doesn't clarify why dogs and human beings do not percentage a scourge because dogs would were the first animal domesticated. Pigs were in all likelihood the 2d and chicken got here up close in the back of. Pigs, biologically are alot like us.

No. You've been given a lot of bad advice on here from people who are just guessing. MOST viruses (with a few notable exceptions such as avian flu) are species specific and therefore cannot be transmitted from one species to another. Therefore, your cat or dog cannot catch your cold, but can be susceptible to viruses that you would not catch from them.

They can't catch the cold virus.
Some germs they can catch. I've heard that strep can infect animals.
