My wife says I tell her she is pretty when I come home and the house is clean, and it has less to do with what she looks like.

Maybe its the fact that when the house is clean it makes you feel better and are more prone to give compliments. Maybe when its dirty you can't see her among the clutter. Who knows but she should realize you wouldn't just say that to be saying that. She should take the compliment a little more gracious. Maybe try telling her she is pretty while your out somewhere, so she doesn't associate it with cleaning the house.

Do you think what she is saying is true? It seems silly, maybe she just doesn't notice all the other times you compliment her. You can try to explain to her that it just puts you in a good mood to see the house looking so nice, but that you do think she's pretty ALL the time :-)
She probably *does* want you to acknowledge the clean house, but she doesn't want that to be associated with her "prettiness." When you come home, if you notice that the house is clean (try to notice these things if you don't already) then say "Wow, thanks honey the house looks great!" and give her a kiss. If you can tell she did a LOT of work, then make an even bigger deal out of it and maybe offer to do something nice for her (like make dinner or give her a massage) to help her relax.
As for the prettiness comments, she probably just wants to hear them more often so that she knows you really DO think she's pretty all the time and not just when the house is clean :-) DO continue to tell her she's pretty when you come home and the mood strikes you to tell her that. But also make a point to tell her more often and at more random times. Good luck!

A clean house has nothing to do with a beautiful woman. Try showing her that you think she's pretty in some other way.- surprise her with flowers. She'll be more likely to feel better about the compliment.

My husband is a total fool! He's so in love with me, he could care less how the house looks (however, I can't stand a messy house)

Sounds like your wife is just a whiner and wants to pick a fight.

If she doesn't feel pretty you can tell her all day long how pretty she is and she will not believe you. Don't stop telling her though (we NEED to hear that). Just make sure you believe it when you say it. You don't want her to think your a little liar!

You do it because you know it makes her happy and puts her in a better mood for the rest of the evening. Nothing wrong with that!!! More men need to do it too :)
