Death certificates are filed in the town/city that the death occurred and official pronouncement was made. For instance. Let's say for the sake of argument your Dad was cutting the lawn and had a heart attack at his house. His house being on the outskirts of the city in a small town. Despite the town having an organized system of government and a town hall, he is taken by ambulance to a neighboring city or town that has the hospital in it. Once there he dies. The death certificate would be filed in the city/town the hospital is in because that's where the pronouncement of death was made.
Most death certificates have a location listed as to where the deceased was buried, cremated, etc. They also would have the name of the funeral home and the embalmer/funeral director and their license. The funeral home would also have the location of burial or where the remains were deposited.
Good luck.

Try to find the local newspaper in that city...contact the obituary editor...they can be very helpful in determining his location. Also, try the county courthouse; they should have the death certificate recorded there, along with any other pertinent information. Hope this info helped.
