Pish posh, faith is the ultimate motivator and agent of change (in society). If one does not have faith, then one cannot have the faith that an action can matter.

I don't think there's anything wrong with faith by itself. It's only when faith leads to fanatical and illogical behavior -- denying scientific fact, condemning all who don't believe as you do, starting wars over faith (against the teachings of most faith-based religions) are there problems. These really aren't proof that faith is evil, they're proof that we're talking about PEOPLE who have faith -- and people are people, with their greed, selfishness, predjudices, biases, and violent natures whether they have faith or not.

That religions based on faith and that teach peace, love, and tolerance haven't been able to overcome basic human nature in their followers shouldn't be surprising to anyone -- we are what we are as a species. In the real world, there doesn't seem to be any practical benefit to "faith" that leads towards humans being more loving and peaceful -- but I still can't blame them for trying.

Faith, in and of itself, is not evil. If you are referring to religious faith evil has been done in its name but not because faith is inherently evil. As with most beliefs faith is what we make it. Personally as a religious tenet I admire people who have faith and truly believe there is a higher power and that they will go to a better place when they die. I would not have thought that faith was evil when, because of it I saw my Mother die a peaceful death, without fear of what was to come. Sometimes I wish I had that kind of faith.

You are speaking of blind faith and yes, it is bad news. It can lead you down that proverbial garden path and gives to an unreasonablness that borders on mania.
