I think it's reinstalling your USB port - try a different port. if that doesn't work go to my computer - right click - properities - find the usb ports click the + sign and uninstall them. Then reinstall or just reboot and they will automatically re-install themselves. If that doesn't work - the device drivers are corrupt - ask microsoft for help. I'm assuming your OS is XP...

If the reboot looks like a "reset" then maybe your USB cable has a short circuit (the + and - are coupled together) or your modem is damaged leading to a too high power consumption (e.g. short circuit).
Try one of the following:
- change the USB cable (or use it wih another device too see if the cable itself is the problem) or plug only the USB cable if possible (without the modem)
- try using the same modem on another computer (for the 1st try you can only plug it in without installing the drivers) and see what happends. If the PC doesn't reboot try installing the drivers. If everything ok then the problem is the driver installed on YOUR PC - perform an uninstall and then a fresh install.
- If is not the cable then it can be your USB port itself. Try using some other device on it.
- you may wnat to check on your other PC the power needed for the USB Modem. My-Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Select under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers the USB Root Hub you use for the modem. Double click and check the Power Tab. In the right column there is a number indicating the power required by the device. A good value is between 10 and 100 mA * number_of_USB_ROOT_HUBS. A value greater then that can damage your USB Root Hub.

If your computer hangs or reboots while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yk5zpr

If you have another USB port on the computer, I suggest using that. It sounds like its trying to pull to much power and resetting your computer to prevent damage.

Something is conflicting.
If it gives any blue screen error you need to do a search on that error.
If it doesn't i'd go to the manufacturers website and search their knowledge base.
