Not high. No one likes negative campaigning, but people use it because it works! Drive up the other side's negatives, and then tell everyone how great your side is. Even getting people who would vote against your side to stay home instead helps.

I resent the attitude of "a pox on both their houses - I won't vote" very deeply. It's not noble, but rather childish. And it plays into the hands of politicians not wanting independent voters to come out, since they might go the other way.

Take the best choice we have. Staying home is NOT the answer.

Sermon's over! :)

They realize that the vast majority of voters don't really pay attention. A few soundbites on hot button issues is really all they need.

Finding a group to kick around like gay people (for republicans) or "the Rich" (anyone with a job, for the democrats) works wonders for them because "everyone" hates these people and if you hate them, the average apathetic voter will have a slightly more favorable view of you. Hate sells.

Also if you can cry about "the environment" or "the children" people will vote for you because, hey, everyone loves the planet and kids. Who cares if you really mean what you say or if your ideas would do more harm than good? You care.

A scandal the weekend before the election always helps too. Because that's when most people start paying attention.

Look. A person is smart. The public is stupid.

And seeing what is popular on TV with certain age demographics, if they target a 10 year old comprehension level, they might just accurately hit the right mark.

Considering the drivel the public consumes, why should they get undeserved credit for intelligence that's quite un-apparent?

Abe Lincoln said you can fool some of the people all the time and that is the basic strategy of politicians today, especially the Republicans. Unfortunately it works, which explains how an incompetent , lying stumble dumb like GWB can get elected for a second term.

Wise up guy, the public is stupid, very stupid, especially in America. Your president, or whoever is running him, is using your country to fulfill purely selfish aims and he murders ordinary citizens like you when it suits him (911, Iraq, Katrina) and you are not even aware of these things. You think I'm a nut.

I'd say Bush is way ahead of you in the intelligence stakes.

they believe they are almighty and powerful enough that they don't even think about peoples intelligence.
they know that there will never be a revolution in this country so they pretty much do as they want.
consider what happened in Waco
this is an example of how they keep the public in line

third grade intelligence. There is not test to vote so everybody gets to do it.
so long as the morons are a majority, we will have a moronic country. that is the down side of democracy.
I believe like aristotle, that we need an educated class to rule.

Their target audience is of average or lower intelligence. This group of people can be swayed with political rhetoric.

Every one else is intelligent enough to not buy the BS that they spew.

Anyone who voted for Bush must be as dim as a 12 Watt light bulb, just like they`re lord and master himself.
