St Hugh of Lincoln has an emblem of a swan. Does anyone know if that's why there are always swans on the canal running through the city?

It's the River Witham that runs through Lincoln and there are Swans all along the Witham miles from Lincoln at most times of the year. However they congregate at Lincoln because it sheltered and warmer but still with plenty of food.

Swans and ducks will settle in any body of freshwater that has an abundance of the food they like to eat. The Lincoln Canal is rich in duckweed, which both swans and ducks like to eat. Therefor, that is why you see many swans and probably also the ducks that frequent there. I hope this helps answer your question.

There is no such thing as the Lincoln canal. It is either the River Witham, the Fossdyke Canal or Sincil Drain.

More than likely they are nesting some place near...

They use the canals as a food source, and recreational source. Also, to get away from pesky humans!

In some places they have Canadian Geese, and in your case you have the Swans. Just be happy and enjoy the view as the good LORD meant them to be admired.

I wish you well..

I think you'll find it was the other way round. Swans aren't fussy - if there's enough water they'll swim in it.
