I'd hop a train to Germany, buy a Eurorail pass, and visit a variety of "flavors" of countries. Although they are all unique, some are more western, and some are more eastern. It really depends on your likes and desires.
Eurorail has a lot of flexible passes, and they have youth passes that will allow you to travel to several countries.
I well rounded trip might include Austria, to Hungary (Romania, if you're into vamps), through Serbia, Bosnia Croatia, Italy, and Switzerland.
Another more western flavor would be down through Switzerland, Italy, France, and Spain.
Like more of a "free modern" trip? Nederlands, Denmark, Sweden.
Regardless... look at their site, and do a little planning. There's too much to see in 6 weeks. Pick a few and really spend some time in them and feel the culture. Going too quickly won't do justice to any of them.

Being Italian I would recommend visiting my country. If I were you, from Poland I would go either to Prague or Vienna and then to Budapest. You can make it by train.Once in Vienna or in Budapest, there's a train to Venice.I would spend a couple of days in Venice and then if you like shopping and a modern city, visit Milan, whereas if you like ruins and history, then visit Florence and Rome.Of course being in Europe you can't miss Paris. It's really worth it.About London, actually I don't know.I mean,I lived there for some time but it's not so beautiful as expected.Certainly I wouldn't miss other cities for London.
Have a nice time here in Europe!

i say since youre in the area. just do a trip around the eastern europe part. it will take up a lot of time traveling back and forth and 6 weeks is very short.
see where you want to go.
and once you picked the cities, divide your money in a way. (this much for that city.. and so on) and live on that scheduale.
set realistic standards

I'm going to Poland, too, Nov. 17-27. I've been doing a lot of research and there seems to be some excellent hostels in that country! Check them out!

Brenno below me is right. I've been to europe 4X and Italy is my favorite place in the world. You positively have to go there (but do your homework--the big cities are pricey).
