OK, here's the more-or-less non-toxic, high workload way to get rid of fleas without bombing your house. I did successfully do this several years ago. I'm assuming you have a furry pet. If not, ignore the bits of the instruction regarding the pet.
This will take about 2 weeks altoghether, but you'll see good results after a couple of days.
If you live in an area where eucalyptus grows, get some pods and place them in the corners of the rooms of your house. If you don't have access to the pods, buy some oil of eucalyptus at your local health food store, soak cotton balls with it, and put those in the corners. Yes, your house will smell vaguely of Vicks Vaporub.
Sprinkle your carpets with borax. Vaccume it up and resprinkle every other day or so.
Get a commercial flea collar, activate it, and put it inside the bag of your vaccume cleaner.
Finally, once or twice/day you'll need to comb your furry pet with a flea comb. Cats will be remarkably accomodating about this - I can't vouch for dogs. Keep a bowl of soapy water handy and dunk the comb each time you pass it through the fur. This keeps the fleas from jumping off the comb and back on the pet. Added amusement bonus - you get to watch the little suckers drown. Wipe the comb on a towl after each dunk.
Don't put the eucalyptus oil on the pet. Don't eat the eucalyptus oil.

Before your baby is born, use flea bombs to kill the fleas that are in your linens, carpeting, etc. Then give your pets flea baths and use Frontline from the vet. It goes on their backs once a month and will prevent fleas in the future. Just make sure you wait a few days after the bath because the natural oils on the animals skin and fur spread the Frontline medicine.

You will need to either have professional exterminators come in and do the job or you can buy the flea bombs and do it yourself.
It is very important that you take the pets somewhere else if you still have them and it is very important that YOU stay out of the house for the required amount of time. It will tell you all this on the cans of flea bomb. You will need to move live plants and any fish (aquariums) that you have. Dump and clean the food dishes for your pets and make sure that you wash all your dishes after wards too.
Be careful as this stuff is pretty toxic and you sure don't want to breathe any of it.
Take care and good luck

We had a flea problem once, it took us "bombing" the house twice before it disappeared... I would highly recommend that you do this before the baby is born, but you should stay away from all the chemicals. After each session, you also have to wash Everything! Dishes, laundry, bedding... it's a pain in the ...butt. But worth it. Exterminator will get rid of them for a cost, but you still will have to do the cleanup. After, make sure you don't re-infest by putting flea collars on your pets.

Bug bomb the place. It will require you to leave and sleep elsewhere for about 24 hours (probably 48 hours for you being that you're prego). Your pets need flea baths and some sort of flea treatment (the stuff vets give or a flea collar) and they need to remain indoor pets.
Congrats on the baby and good luck with the fleas.

i asked the same question in the pet category. the response i got was to buy advantage flea control and bomb the house. we still haven't done it because we're thinking we'll have to get rid of the dog before the baby comes because he will b too much of a handful to take care of in my last trimester (we live in an upstairs apartment building and he is high energy)

I actually dont have an answer for you, but I have found 2 fleas in my house, and was wondering myself. I was going to call my doctor to see if bombing the house would be safe. Thanks for asking the question.

Get rid of your pets. Bomb the house 2 times and then steam clean the carpets and furniture.

buy a couple of those flea bombs and set them off in the main rooms, but you have to leave your house for a while, like a couple hours i think.

Call an exterminator, they might need to fumigate your home to kill them. Do it quickly, though, because fleas can carry disease and the bites could potentially scar your baby forever.
