RE:
How many children can you watch in Indiana without license?
My mother in law and I want to start babysitting in my home. We will both be doing it and we were wondering how many children you were allowed to have without a license

My sister did this, she lives in Indiana. If you are getting paid to watch children, then you have to be licenced by the state. If you are just doing a favor, and no money is gained (or can be tracked) you can watch up to 6 each under the age of 10. I think it goes up to 9 if they are 10-16.
Licensing is your surest bet to stay out of tax trouble. Claim your taxes, white collar crimes are just as bad as blue collar crimes.

Well..about 10-12 years ago...it was 5 per adult. After that, you need to be licensed. I used to babysit and then got into the state listing for daycare. You can talk to the local welfare office and they can tell you how to get on the program. Your name is on a list of mopthers who recieve benefits and they also work. They contact you to babysit and you recieve your pay from the state. Its a voucher program that helps the single mothers be able to find work and afford daycare too. I live in Central Indiana......it really is a good program....Good Luck !!!!!
