It already is in several states and has been since the 19th century, although some of these laws are currently under lawsuits.

Huh? That's just silly. Especially since no Republican or conservative or even the most fervent fundamentalist has ever suggested such a thing.

Republicans could not do it if they wanted to. Such a law would probably be struck down by the federal courts as unconstitutional.

If such a law was legislated, no one would obey it any more than a law banning unmarried sex.Laws work only because of voluntary compliance.
