Ok, Subaru is Japanese. The engine, transmission, and interior are all manufactured in Japan. It is imported to the US where it is assembled. So basicaly it is a Japanese car. But Toyota and Honda's and Nissan are made here in the US, including the engine and transmission. Then why do people think that Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are reliable and better cars, if they are made here?

They may be MADE here, but they were DESIGNED by Japanese in JAPAN, and THAT"S what makes the difference.

They are only MADE here to avoid tariffs.

For the same reason that some Harley riders look down their noses at Honda's Goldwing - even though it is just as 'Made in America' as the Harley.

It's basically just lazy thinking. Perception of reliability, rather than reality.

This perception happens to all products - and may be based on current facts, old information, or no information at all.

Because Japanese cars built outside of Japan are manufactured to certain standards set by the manufacturers, machine tolerances are closer and quality control is higher therefore the cars are more reliable
If the US and UK car makers adopted these policies their cars would be better.

Reliability has more to do with how the engineers design them than who assembles them. They are all built by trained skilled workers, but the engineering behind them is what counts most.
