turn on the news once in awhile, you'll see tons of current event topics. smoking bans, gay rights, who's running for governor in your state, the possibilities are infinite.

You could persuade your audience of many things... Such as using protection when having sex (talk about STD's etc), you could also persuade your audience to vote for a politician, or donate to a certain charity. I did a persuasive speech last semester at FIT on donating to the Humane Society of the United States. Use visuals & handouts, and you're all set!

My son, who is a lawyer now, spoke for 12 minutes when he was in high school on the topic of Church vs. State. It was quite an eye opener, brought about a lot of controversy. It was an oratorical contest through the VFW. He came in 1st place.

What good is book smart, if you are street,lame. or can a child grow up in a home and be successful if there is no respect, honesty,or trust shown or taught. Has television influenced you beliefs (moral not religious)

anything contreversial, that way you could address both sides, while picking one to support...


capital punishment; abortion/stem cell research; Mexican illegal immigration (the fence bush is building); gay rights; the war in Iraq; does media have a violent effect on children? (actually, i can send you a report i wrote last year on this topic); anything else that is not yet fixed/resolved.
