8 years. Say the population is 100. the first year it will be 110. The second 121, third 133, forth 146, fifth 161, sixth 177, seventh 194 eighth 214. How to figure that out is put 100 into your calculator, then times it by 1.1. push enter. you don't have to do anything to figure out the second year or so on because the calculator just repeats the last action. Just hit enter and count how many times you have to hit it. Hope that helps.

Or, it multiplies by a factor of 1.1 a year. So 1.1 to what power equals or exceeds 2?

P= current population
2P = 1.1^x P
2=1.1^x
log 2 = log 1.1^x
log 2 = xlog 1.1
x = (log 2)/(log 1.1)
Now use your calculator to get answer
