It did for me and I didn't even realise it. When we were courting (a billion years ago) I wrote a short poem for my (then) boyfriend and sent it with one of the millions of letters I wrote to him (no email or mobile phones back then). Recently (30 years of wedded bliss (!) later), he was clearing out his wallet and handed me a crumpled piece of paper. It was my poem. He'd kept it all that time and never said a word.
Try it, you may never know, but it's surely worth the effort!

Of all the arts in the world poetry must be the one that can move grown men to tears, the beauty of the spoken word in the hands of a poet is a thing to behold , Sadly the world does not have the time or Patience to listen any more

It worked in my life!

My late husband and I are both poets. He read my poetry and I read his. In fact, it was his first poem to me that captured my heart. I have all the poems he ever wrote me.

Most people to whom I wrote poems weren't into poetry, so could care less.

Poetry got me a date with another poet, also helped me vent my feelings when a relationship collapsed with a girl who was a manic depressive. The other person needs to be receptive to it.

i've never really tried to "win someone over" with a poem. i have written poetry for people though. yeah, you have to make a judgment call based on who you're dealing with. some people don't appreciate that sort of thing.

Yeah, I asked my with Wife to marry me with a poem which I made myself, learnt it off by heart and bent down on one knee while saying it too her.

She was over the moon and blown away.

We've now framed it

It all depends on who's reading it. An old girlfriend used to love that kind of stuff, my wife hates it!!

But in the right hands, it's a mighty powerful tool.
