My son, who will be 5 months in just a few days, has what looks like ringworm on his calf. I have called the Dr (so please no, well why haven't you called the Dr answers??) but I am waiting on a return phone call. I'm just curious what your treatment was and if you knew where your child contacted the fungus? Oh and also what the skin lesion looked like. My son's is not a round spot, it's just a small (like men's shirt button) size place that is really rough to the touch. It's pink and more pink on the outer edges. Thanks!

Ringworm is a very distinctive ring that has a darker edge to it often. You don't always know where it came from. You can possibly buy an over the counter treatment for it. Check with the pharmacist.

What your son has sounds a lot like eczma which can express itself in many ways. Usually rough dry skin patch. And often on babies. Best treatment is a good moisturiser cream applied often until eczma goes. Even something like olive oil would possibly work as it's moisturising the skin. Babies only need water for bathing as baby bath solutions etc can be drying for their delicate skin.

This website has some great information about eczma.

The #1 Natural Ringworm Treatment Method

Actually, I myself have had ringworm after catching it from a child I was watching in daycare! Yes, it really does sound like ringworm. As it progresses it will develop more of an actual "ring" to it, but it generally starts off looking the way you are describing. One of the most common places to catch ringworm is either from another child (it's contagious) or many times from playing in a sandbox that has been contaminated with cat feces. Sandboxes and outdoor playgrounds are the most common culprits. A covered sandbox is always best, to keep the animals out, but sometimes it's just "one of those things" that's unavoidable. It's treated with cream and is easily cured if you're vigilant with the treatment. Ask the pediatrician how you can keep it from spreading.

My daughter had ringworm at 20 months from our cat. The doc gave her an antifungal cream and it was gone in about 3-4 days.

It sounds like a very good possibility! It doesn't have to be round though.

Ringworm is not only contracted by animals, if your chilld crawls around in the dirt, grass or floors and comes in contact with the disease they will get it.

Be sure it's ringworm and not another skin disease which needs a different treatment. There are lots of sources online, you can google or ask.com some have pics..and good info. The below link has lots of additional details on other links. Our pharmacist gave us a topical ointment to put on and clear up. And our physican said she was doing fine, he also provided some samples etc to relive the itching. It's a juck fungus and you did nothing wrong! It's usually animals dogs, cats ect... and you can tell alot easier on them cause it's usually hair loss spots. You baby coming in contact with infected animal will definately be a high source.
Ck around, is a pet dragging their butt on your floors, carpet that your baby is crawling or laying on? Goodluck!

It mat be ringworm- you can use Lamisil or Tinactin cream on it. It isn't a worm but a fungus. Any athletes foot cream will cure it. If it gets on his scalp then you have to have a prescription. My son got it from a stray cat that the neighbor kids took in. Then my other son got it when we adopted a cat from the pound. Apparently cats get it a lot. It's a pain but it will clear up just keep the cream on it and wash you hands, don't let him scratch if you can help it. If he goes to daycare he could have gotten it from another child. It's very contagious.

My oldest son, Got ringworm when he was around 2 years old, And from what you've described that's what his looked like too, Does the inside of it look kind of crusty?

Anyway- We used an antifungal cream (OTC) and it eventually went away, He got it from a stray kitten that I had taken in. So if you have any pets, You might want to treat them, Just to be on the safe side.

It's actually quite common, but folks "freak" when they hear the word "worm"....so most don't discuss it.

Most commonly received through association with animals (dogs, cats, etc.), but there are other ways

It's treated with a topical cream, and will go away with no problems if it's ringworm. No worries - he'll be fine.
