They didn't have to get your I.P Addy just to tell you the postal code where you live.. Everywhere on the net you go, there is a trail left behind you of lil 1's and 0's. Those ones and zero's mean something to the people who know how to program. Also, certain chat rooms you go into may have your I.P posted for security measures, she may have gotten it there. Hope this helps.. And Good luck..

They are probably using tools like netstat and tracert.
Those are the basic versions, and as you can imagine there are several commercial applications that actually do trace your ip, and get some neat information of from where you're connecting.

But to get your postcode... I must believe they are just bluffing, the must know you from somewhere and they're having a laugh, or they made some search using one piece of information like your mail or name, or something you dindt realize you gave to them. Google is quite powerful! hehee.. and other search engines too.. and if for some reason they googled that piece info, and you made some registration long or not long time ago in other different website, with real information, they could have got it from there. (Thats my opinion if you are sure theyre not hackers).

Avoid giving real info.
Your IP adress is shown if they have an opened chat conversation with you, and if they use netstat or similar software.

go to START>Run... (click)
Then type CMD (hit enter)

youll get a black MS-DOS screen.

type directly in that screen :

netstat -b

(hit enter)

Ready! you can get a list of connections with your computer and the internet....
The list is pretty simple to understand.

If you dont, just type

netstat -n

That will give you the list of foreign adresses connected to your computer, but you will not know which application is dealing with those connections... could be explorer, could be outlook, could be even system programs...

Now for TRACERT.
Again in that black screen, after you found an IP that you "fancy"... type

tracert 1.1.2.3

(you have to put the IP you want instead of the 1.1.2.3

voila, youll get another useful info.
Time to go, have to run, hope is useful.

www.ip2location.com - this is but one page from where they could find out your location based on the IP. The IP i guess was found out using a yahoo plugin or something, also easyly downloadable and hardly trackable.

as far as i knew they couldnt tell where you live by an ip address unless your the police. the best it can do is give a geograpical location and thats it.

No, anyone can take your IP, there´s no problem.
The only way to know where you live is working in the ISP.

Well you shouldn't of been pm'ing with someone you don't know.
thats what happens.
Uninstall MSN. call your internet provider, and don't pm with someone you don't know again.
