Pick something you're interested in. I've always had teachers tell me to stay away from super controversial topics such as abortion because it is really difficult to fully cover both sides. It also leads to a lot of emotion instead of informed debate. Another mistake people make when choosing a topic is they assume is has to be political. This is not the case...I wouldn't be surprised if you have people choosing illegal immigrations, abortion, prayer in schools, etc.

If you're still in HS, maybe you could pick something that pertains to the school. Like, all Seniors should get Privledge X, or Widgets should be made available in the cafeteria.

Or, why the STL Cardinals are the best ball team, or why Hondas are the better car. Rock over Rap....you get the picture.

If it were me, I'd keep it light. Maybe something you can add a little humor to. Stay away from the hard hitting stuff that will take too much time and energy to get into. We're here enough of all of that on the nightly news.

It depends. It would be useless for me to just throw out topic ideas to you because I don't know who your audience is.

The point of a persuasive speech is to change your audience's way of thinking or to change something they do.

So with that in mind, what does your audience think about a certain subject? What does your audience do on a regular basis? Use what you already know about your audience, then pick a topic that you know will interest them, but also make it something you feel strongly about.

Good luck!

What about things that affect you or your friends everyday, like cell phones, computers, etc. Discuss why something would be good or not good to have & why. 6 mins. isn't as long as you think. If you have a couple solid points and give detail about each one, you will hit that mark easily.

You should talk about something that you are extremely passionate about. It could be anything.......politics, money, the price of tea in China, or your crazy neighbors. As long as you have a strong opinion, you will be good to talk for 6+ minutes.
Good luck

Write about whatever you feel strongly about, except religion. Try war, abortion, gay mairrage, the meaning of life, stem cell research, animal testing, the intelligence of the Bush administration, filesharing or whatever you feel that you can get a little angry about. Exclude religion because it is easy to feel too strongly about it.
